Description
The Alderworth large three light inverted pendant turns the shade upwards, so the 500mm bowl of Tiffany-style leaded glass throws light onto the ceiling and lets it fall back into the room evenly. The blue glass is set around a dragonfly motif, each piece cut on its own and joined with soldered seams over a metal frame. Three lamp holders sit inside the bowl, each taking an E27 GLS bulb of up to 60W, supplied separately. The drop adjusts from 400mm to 700mm at installation, which is a short hang suited to standard ceiling heights.
An inverted pendant gives softer, better spread light than a downward shade, so this is the one to choose for a sitting room, a dining room or a landing where you want general light rather than a pool over a table. Three lamps at 60W each cover a good sized room on their own. The blue reads cool and calm against panelling, deep green walls and older woodwork. It weighs 4.5kg, so we would want a proper ceiling fixing rather than an old rose. Rated IP20, it is for dry indoor rooms only.
The bowl is soldered leaded glass held on chains from a metal frame, wired as a Class 1 earthed fitting for a qualified electrician. Because the shade faces upwards it will collect dust, so lift it out or brush it clear every few months, then wipe marks with a barely damp cloth and dry at once, keeping solvents and abrasive creams off the solder. Let bulbs cool first. The same glass appears on the Alderworth medium pendant and on a beige version of this fitting, so rooms can be matched without repeating one shade throughout.

Frequently Asked
What does inverted mean?
The shade sits as an upward facing bowl instead of hanging open at the bottom, so light bounces off the ceiling and spreads more evenly through the room.
What is the glass?
Blue Tiffany-style leaded glass with a dragonfly motif. The pieces are cut individually and joined with soldered seams on a metal frame.
What size is it?
The bowl is 500mm in diameter and the drop adjusts between 400mm and 700mm. The fitting weighs 4.5kg, so the ceiling fixing needs to be sound.
Which bulbs does it take?
Three E27 GLS bulbs of up to 60W each, supplied separately. It dims with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch.
Does an upward facing shade collect dust?
It does, more than a downward shade. Brush or lift the bowl clear every few months, then wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately.
Is it bright enough for a whole room?
Three lamps at up to 60W each will light an average sitting or dining room, and the upward throw keeps the light soft rather than glaring.
