Description

The Alderworth semi flush carries a 410mm shade of blue Tiffany-style leaded glass, worked with the dragonfly motif that gives the design its shape and its outstretched detail. It projects 315mm below the ceiling, so it suits rooms without the height for a pendant. Three E27 lampholders sit inside, each taking an LED bulb of up to 10W, and the fitting weighs 3.1kg. Bulbs are not included, which lets you set the warmth of the light against the depth of the blue glass.

Blue leaded glass behaves differently from a multicoloured shade: it stays cool and quiet in daylight, then warms noticeably once the bulbs are lit. That makes this a good ceiling light for a bedroom, a landing, a study or a hallway, and a pleasing choice in bathrooms adjacent rooms where blue already appears in tiling or paintwork. At 410mm it is the more compact of the two sizes we hold, so it suits smaller rooms and narrower hallways. It is rated IP20 and intended for dry indoor use.

The glass is set into soldered metal seams on a metal frame, with the dragonfly wings picked out in the leading itself rather than printed on. Dust with a dry soft cloth, lift marks with a barely damp cloth and dry straight away, and keep sprays and abrasive creams away from the seams. The fitting is Class 1 and needs an earthed supply, and it dims with a compatible dimmer switch and dimmable bulbs.
