Description

The Aethera is a 45cm cylinder lampshade constructed from black fabric stretched over a fireproof PVC inner lining. The drum shape maintains a 450mm diameter at both top and bottom, creating a straight-sided profile that suits floor lamps, oversized table lamps and pendant conversions using metal lampshade frames with standard European fitting rings.

Designed to fit metal lampshade frames (sold separately), the Aethera sits on dual ring mounts — a top ring that secures to the bulb holder assembly and a bottom ring that maintains the cylinder's shape. The 450mm width suits lamps where the shade diameter needs to balance a tall base or where multiple lamps are used in a room and visual consistency matters. The black fabric diffuses light evenly downward and upward, reducing glare from exposed bulbs while casting ambient light into the surrounding space.

The outer fabric is a medium-weight textile with a slight sheen under direct light, while the PVC liner provides rigidity and meets fireproofing standards for proximity to incandescent, halogen and LED bulbs. The 450mm diameter works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above when used on floor lamps, or on table lamps where the base height is 500-700mm. The black finish pairs with industrial, modern and minimalist interiors, and provides contrast against lighter wall tones and natural timber furniture.

Frequently Asked

Does the Aethera come with a lampshade frame?

No. The Aethera is a fabric shade only and requires a separate metal lampshade frame with dual ring mounts (top and bottom) to maintain its shape. Frames are sold separately and must match the 450mm diameter.

What bulb wattage is safe to use?

The fireproof PVC inner lining is rated for proximity to standard household bulbs. For incandescent and halogen bulbs, keep wattage below 60W. LED bulbs produce minimal heat and can be used at higher lumen outputs without risk.

Can the fabric be cleaned?

The fabric can be gently vacuumed with a soft brush attachment to remove dust. For spot cleaning, use a barely-damp cloth with water only — do not use household sprays or detergents as they may stain or weaken the fabric weave.

What lamp base height suits a 45cm shade?

For table lamps, pair the 450mm shade with a base height of 500-700mm to maintain visual proportion. For floor lamps, the shade typically sits 1200-1500mm above floor level depending on the overall lamp height.
