Description

Five opal glass shades sit in a ring on a satin black plate, close enough to the ceiling to keep the line of a room clear. The glass is soft and even rather than clear, so the G9 capsules behind it read as a steady glow instead of bright points. At 60cm across it covers a fair width of ceiling, and the shallow body means it looks like part of the ceiling rather than something suspended from it.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: hallways and landings, a bedroom under a modest ceiling, a kitchen or dining corner where head height matters. The lamps are spread around the plate, so light goes outwards as well as down, which suits a squarer room better than a narrow corridor. Fitted with dimmable capsules and a compatible dimmer it will drop to a low evening level; on a plain switch it gives a bright, even wash. Lamps are not included, and LED capsules are what we would put in it.

The shades are glass, carried on a metal frame in a satin black finish whose low sheen keeps reflections and fingerprints quiet. For cleaning, switch off at the wall and let everything go cold, then lift dust from the opal glass with a dry microfibre cloth; a barely damp cloth will shift kitchen film, dried off before the power goes back on. Nothing abrasive on the black. It carries a one year warranty. The range goes further than this piece: we stock the same flush fitting in antique brass and satin nickel, a smaller three lamp version of each, and matching table and wall lamps in satin black if you want the opal glass repeated lower down the room.
