Description

Two opal glass shades sit either side of a slim satin black backplate, each holding a G9 capsule behind frosted walls. The glass reads as a soft off-white against the dark metal, so the fitting keeps a clean outline on a pale wall and a more graphic one on darker paint. It measures 33cm across with a shallow projection, giving a broad spread of light without pushing far out into the room, and the frosting takes the hard edge off the capsules so you are not looking at bright points.

We like these in bedrooms, either side of a headboard, where the opal glass keeps things gentle at eye level for reading and late nights. They work along hallways and landings as well, spaced out to break up a long blank wall, and above a console or a fireplace where a taller shape would crowd the space. There is no switch on the body, so it runs from the room's wall switch, and it will dim if you fit dimmable capsules and have a compatible dimmer on the circuit. We would choose LED capsules here rather than halogen, purely for what they cost to run.

The frame is metal in a satin black finish, low in sheen rather than glossy, and the shades are opal glass. To keep it looking right, switch off at the wall and let everything cool, then dust the glass with a soft brush and finish the metalwork with a dry cloth; household sprays and polishes are best kept away from both. It is made for dry rooms indoors on an ordinary domestic circuit. It carries a one year warranty. The same wall light is offered in antique brass and satin nickel, and the range also runs to table lamps and flush ceiling fittings in the same opal glass if you want it echoed elsewhere. Capsules are not included.
