Description

A pair of opal glass shades does the work here, giving a soft, even light with no glare from the lamp itself, set against antique brass with the gently aged tone that finish suggests. At 33cm across it reads as a low horizontal on the wall rather than a tall fitting, and the projection is modest enough to pass a doorway comfortably. Each shade takes a G9 capsule, and we would fit LED capsules here. There is no switch on the fitting, so it works from the room's switching, and it will dim where dimmable lamps are used.

We suggest this where a table lamp has nowhere to stand: a hallway, a landing, above a console table, or in pairs either side of a bed at reading height. The light spreads sideways as much as it pools, which makes it useful in narrower rooms and along a long run of wall that needs breaking up. Brass and opal glass sit happily in older houses, while the plain shape keeps it at home in newer rooms. Anyone after something warmer than chrome will find it an easy choice.

Wipe them with a barely damp cloth and dry them off afterwards; the brass wants nothing more than a dry cloth, as sprays and polishes will take the life out of the finish over time.
