Description

Prism-cut crystal is set into an antique brass frame here, in a compact square that sits close to the ceiling and measures 25cm across. The cut faces catch the light from a single E14 candle lamp behind them and throw it back as small bright points, so the fitting reads more like jewellery than a plain plate of glass. The warm brass tone takes the hard edge off that sparkle and keeps things quiet when the light is switched off. It will dim, provided the lamp fitted is a dimmable one.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low or get in the way: a hallway, a landing, the head of a stair, a small bedroom, a cloakroom or a box room with a low ceiling. A lamp of up to 20W is all it asks for, and an LED candle is what we would put in it. It suits anyone who wants a little glitter overhead without a chandelier taking over the room. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, where splashes are not part of daily life.

The prism crystal and the brass-finished metalwork do the work between them, and the square outline keeps it tidy against a flat ceiling. Cut crystal dulls with dust faster than most glass, so run a dry lint-free cloth over the facets now and then, with the light off and cooled first, and leave sprays and polishes out of it. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the square in polished chrome as well, and the same look runs through round fittings with sphere crystal, larger multi-lamp sizes and a switched wall light.
