Description

Prism-cut crystal is set in ranks across a square antique brass frame, and behind it sit four candle lamps that scatter small, bright points of light over the ceiling and walls. The brass is warm and gently aged rather than bright, which takes the edge off the sparkle and stops the whole thing looking too formal. It holds close against the ceiling, so the crystal reads as a shallow panel of texture rather than a hanging shape. Put it on a dimmer with dimmable lamps fitted and the output can be brought right down to a glow.

At 38cm square it suits a hallway, a landing, a decent-sized bedroom or a dining corner where headroom rules out anything on a drop. We reach for it in flats and cottages with low ceilings, where a chandelier would be in the way but the room still wants a little cut glass overhead. The lamps together give enough light to work as the main fitting in a medium room, with a table lamp for the evening. It takes E14 candle lamps, and LED candles keep the crystal cool-looking and the running costs down.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, with solid crystal prisms held in a squared arrangement that catches light from every side. To keep it bright, run a dry lint-free cloth over the prisms every few months and use the same cloth on the brass, leaving sprays and scouring pads well away from both. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same square shape in polished chrome, and in smaller and larger sizes, alongside round versions with sphere crystal in either finish and wall lights in the range if you want the look carried on down the room.
