Description

The Knightsbridge AMLEDWS is a 5W LED security bulkhead with an integral PIR motion sensor, built around a white polycarbonate base and opal polycarbonate diffuser rated IP54 for outdoor use. The integrated SMD LED array delivers 410lm at 4000K cool white through a 120° beam angle, with the sensor controlling when the light activates based on movement detection, ambient light level, and adjustable time delay.

Designed for perimeter security lighting, rear door areas, walkways, bin stores, outbuildings, garages, and covered outdoor areas where low-level night-time illumination is needed only when movement is detected. The sensor adjusts for sensitivity, lux threshold (so it only operates in darkness), and how long the light stays on after detecting motion. The 197mm × 108mm footprint fits directly onto external masonry, timber or metal surfaces via two rear fixing points, with a 78mm projection from the wall once installed.

The polycarbonate construction resists impact better than glass or acrylic diffusers, making the fitting suitable for commercial, light-industrial and domestic outdoor applications where durability matters. The IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashing from any direction, so the fitting works in uncovered positions exposed to rain. The Class II double-insulated construction means no earth connection is required during installation. The LED array is rated for 60,000 hours L70B50 life expectancy and carries a 3-year manufacturer warranty.

How is the PIR sensor adjusted?

The integral microwave sensor includes three adjustments: sensitivity (detection range), time delay (how long the light stays on after detecting motion), and lux control (the ambient light level below which the sensor activates). These are adjusted via controls accessible behind the diffuser — see the product manual in the Downloads tab for the exact adjustment procedure.

Can it be used in fully exposed outdoor locations?

Yes. The IP54 rating protects against dust and water splashing from any direction, so the bulkhead can be installed in uncovered external positions exposed to rain. It is not submersible and should not be installed where it will be submerged or subjected to high-pressure water jets.

What detection range does the sensor have?

Detection range depends on the sensitivity adjustment and the mounting height. At typical mounting heights of 2-3m, the sensor covers an area of approximately 6-8m radius in front of the bulkhead. Adjust sensitivity to reduce false triggers from passing traffic or small animals.

Does it require an earth connection?

No. The bulkhead is Class II double-insulated, so only live and neutral connections are required. This simplifies installation in locations where an earth conductor is not easily accessible.
