5W LED Bulkhead with Daylight Sensor - Black IP54

The Knightsbridge AMLEDBP is a 5W LED bulkhead with an integrated daylight sensor that switches the light on automatically at dusk and off at dawn. The fitting combines a black polycarbonate base with an opal polycarbonate diffuser, housing a non-replaceable SMD LED array rated at 460lm output and 4000K cool white colour temperature. The IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashing from any direction, making it suitable for exterior use in porches, utility areas, outbuildings and security applications.

Designed for continuous low-level or security lighting where mains-powered automatic operation is needed, the photocell sensor eliminates manual switching and adapts to seasonal daylight hours without user intervention. The sensor is calibrated for exterior use only — when mounted indoors it may not receive sufficient ambient light variation to trigger reliably. The bulkhead mounts directly to a wall or ceiling surface using two fixing points, with the cable entering through a rear knockout gland.

The polycarbonate construction resists impact and UV degradation better than acrylic or glass alternatives, while the Class II double-insulated design removes the need for an earth connection during installation. At 197mm length and 108mm width with 78mm projection from the wall, the fitting is compact enough for narrow walkways and doorways without obstructing passage. The 60,000-hour L70B50 rating indicates the LED will maintain at least 70% of its initial lumen output after 60,000 hours of operation, equivalent to approximately 15 years at 12 hours per night.

How does the daylight sensor work?

The integrated photocell monitors ambient light levels and switches the bulkhead on automatically when darkness falls, then off again at dawn. The sensor is calibrated for exterior mounting where it receives natural daylight variation. If installed indoors it may not receive enough light change to trigger reliably.

Can the LED be replaced?

No. The 5W SMD LED array is non-replaceable and integrated into the fitting. The L70B50 rating of 60,000 hours indicates the LED will maintain at least 70% of its initial brightness after approximately 15 years of 12-hour-per-night operation.

Is it suitable for bathrooms or outdoor showers?

The IP54 rating protects against water splashing from any direction, making it acceptable for outdoor covered areas such as porches and utility zones. It is not rated for direct water jets (IP65) or full immersion, so placement should avoid direct rain exposure or high-pressure hosing.

What fixing is required?

The bulkhead mounts to a wall or ceiling using two fixing points. The mains cable enters through a rear knockout gland. As a Class II double-insulated fitting, no earth connection is required, though the circuit must still be isolated during installation by a qualified electrician.
