Description
The Knightsbridge 5A unswitched socket takes round 3-pin plugs on lighting and low-current circuits, behind a smoked bronze screwless faceplate with a black insert. The 5A rating makes this socket suitable for table lamps, floor lamps, decorative lighting and other appliances drawing up to 1,150W on 230V mains, certified to BS 546 for UK installation.
Designed for residential lighting circuits where a dedicated 5A circuit feeds specific zones or where period-style round pin plugs are preferred, the socket is unswitched — the circuit is controlled at the consumer unit or via a wall switch elsewhere in the room. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, eliminating visible fixings on the wall and giving a cleaner finish than traditional screw-fixed faceplates.
The smoked bronze finish is a dark gunmetal grey-bronze tone over premium-grade steel, providing a warm metallic accent that pairs well with heritage, industrial and warm contemporary interiors. The built-in gasket between the faceplate and the wall improves dust resistance and gives a flush seal against plaster. At 87.5mm square and 4.3mm projection from the wall, the socket sits almost flat to the surface once installed.

Frequently Asked
What is a 5A socket used for?
5A round pin sockets are designed for lighting circuits and low-current appliances drawing up to 1,150W. They're commonly used for table lamps, floor lamps, decorative lighting and other fittings where a dedicated lighting circuit is in place. The round pin configuration prevents higher-current appliances from being plugged into a 5A circuit.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.
Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?
Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the socket and re-clipped without re-wiring.
What other finishes are available in this range?
Knightsbridge produces this 5A socket style in a range of finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, antique brass, matt black and white. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
