Description

The Knightsbridge 5A unswitched round pin socket provides a single 5A outlet in a matt white screwless steel faceplate measuring 87.5mm square with a 4.3mm projection from the wall. The round pin configuration follows BS 546 standard wiring, commonly used for lighting circuits, table lamps and low-power appliances where 13A capacity is not required.

Designed for lighting control installations, custom lamp circuits and period property refurbishments where 5A round pin sockets are specified, the unswitched format provides a permanent live connection without an on/off rocker. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, meaning no visible fixings appear on the installed faceplate. A built-in gasket behind the cover improves dust and moisture resistance to IP20 standard.

The matt white finish sits flush with painted or papered walls and provides a neutral backdrop that suits traditional, contemporary and commercial interiors. The premium-grade steel construction offers rigidity and longevity, with Knightsbridge backing the fitting with a 25-year warranty. The 25mm minimum back box depth fits standard UK wall cavities and stud partitions.

Frequently Asked

What is a 5A round pin socket used for?

5A round pin sockets are typically used for lighting circuits, table lamps, and low-power appliances where 13A capacity is not needed. They follow BS 546 standard wiring and are common in period properties, custom lighting installations and circuits where dedicated lighting control is specified.

Why is this socket unswitched?

The unswitched format provides a permanent live connection, allowing the appliance or lamp plugged into it to be controlled by its own integral switch or by a separate wall switch on the lighting circuit. This is standard for dedicated lamp circuits where switching happens elsewhere.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall surface once fitted.

Is the screwless plate removable for decorating?

Yes. The matt white cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the socket and re-clipped without rewiring.
