Description
The Knightsbridge 3-gang intelligent dimmer handles 10-200W loads per gang (5-150W for LED lamps) behind a matt black screwless faceplate with matching dimmer caps. Each gang operates independently on a 2-way circuit, allowing control from two locations in the room. The dimmer can switch between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes via the front control knob, making it compatible with most dimmable LED, halogen and incandescent lamps without requiring back-box access to change settings.
Designed for living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms where multiple lighting circuits need independent dimming control, the 3-gang layout typically manages three separate zones such as overhead pendants, wall lights and table lamps. The rotary dimming action on each knob provides smooth fade control, while a push action on the knob switches the circuit on or off. The dimmer ships preset in trailing-edge mode, which suits most modern LED lamps, but can be switched to leading-edge for older halogen or incandescent loads. All mode switching, trimming and reset functions are accessed from the front of the plate, so the dimmer can be reconfigured if lamps are changed without removing the faceplate or accessing the back box.
The matt black finish is a powder-coated premium-grade steel construction that resists fingerprints and minor scuffs better than painted metal. The screwless design uses a clip-on cover plate over a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. The dimmer includes overload and overheat protection, plus an inrush current limiter to prevent voltage spikes when switching on high-draw lamps. The unit requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and fits standard UK wiring. All three gangs must control the same brand and wattage of lamp within each circuit to avoid flicker or compatibility issues.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?
Trailing-edge mode (the factory preset) suits most dimmable LED lamps and reduces electrical noise. Leading-edge mode suits older halogen and incandescent lamps. You can switch between modes using the front control knob without removing the faceplate.
Can I mix different lamp brands or wattages on the same gang?
No. Each gang must control lamps of the same brand, type and wattage to avoid flicker, buzzing or dimming inconsistency. Mixing lamp types within a single circuit causes compatibility issues that the dimmer cannot compensate for.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted, with 21.3mm recessed depth behind the plate for wiring connections.
Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?
Yes. The matt black cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the dimmer and re-clipped without re-wiring or disturbing the dimmer settings.
