Description

The Knightsbridge FP2193PL is a 3-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer rated for 10-200W conventional loads or 5-150W LED, with mode-switching capability between trailing-edge and leading-edge operation. Each of the three rotary control knobs provides push on/off and rotary dimming for an independent lighting zone, allowing control of up to three separate circuits from a single faceplate.

Designed for residential lighting control where multiple zones need independent dimming, the unit suits dining rooms with separate pendant and downlight circuits, living rooms with wall lights and ceiling lights, or bedrooms with bedside reading lights and main ceiling fittings. The 2-way configuration allows the dimmer to work in conjunction with a standard 2-way switch elsewhere in the same circuit, enabling control from two locations. The dimmer ships preset to trailing-edge mode (suitable for most LED and electronic-transformer loads) but can be switched to leading-edge mode via the front control knob without removing the faceplate.

The pearl finish is a warm off-white metal with a subtle sheen, sitting between brushed stainless and polished chrome in reflectivity. The ultra-flat plate design projects just 2.5mm from the wall surface once fitted to a 25mm minimum back box, giving a lower profile than standard switch plates. Each dimmer channel includes overload and overheat protection, plus an inrush current limiter to handle the switching transients that occur when lamps are first powered on. The front-panel trim and mode-switching controls allow the dimmer to be adjusted or reset if lamp types are changed without removing the faceplate or re-wiring.

Note: All lamps controlled by a single dimmer channel must be the same brand, type and wattage. Mixing lamp brands or wattages on the same circuit will cause flicker, buzzing or premature dimmer failure.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge mode?

Trailing-edge mode suits most modern LED lamps, low-voltage halogens on electronic transformers, and compact fluorescents. Leading-edge mode suits older incandescent bulbs, low-voltage halogens on wire-wound transformers, and some older dimmable CFLs. The dimmer ships preset to trailing-edge but can be switched to leading-edge via the front control knob if lamp compatibility issues occur (flicker, buzzing, or failure to dim smoothly).

Can I use different lamp types on the three channels?

Yes, each of the three channels controls an independent circuit, so channel 1 could dim LEDs, channel 2 could dim halogen, and channel 3 could dim incandescent, provided each channel's lamps are all the same type. However, all lamps on a single channel must be identical in brand, type and wattage.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The ultra-flat plate adds only 2.5mm of projection from the wall, but the dimmer module behind the plate requires the full 25mm depth to accommodate the electronics and wiring.

How does 2-way operation work?

The dimmer can be wired in a 2-way circuit with a standard 2-way switch elsewhere, allowing the lighting to be turned on or off from either location. Dimming control is only available from the dimmer position itself, not from the remote 2-way switch.
