Description

The Knightsbridge JB0015 is a 24A 4-way gel-filled junction box rated IP68, designed for outdoor and underground electrical connections requiring full waterproof protection. The enclosure arrives pre-filled with insulating gel and includes a 1-to-3 lever connector with sleeve set, ready for immediate installation without additional sealing compound.

Built for exterior lighting circuits, garden power distribution and underground cable runs, the box accepts H07RNF 3-core cables from 0.75mm² to 2.5mm² cross-section with cable diameters between 5mm and 14mm. Four M22 cable glands seal the cable entry points, and the IP68 rating means the box remains protected against dust ingress and continuous immersion in water up to 5 bar pressure, making it suitable for installation in wet ground, pond surrounds and exposed coastal locations.

The housing is moulded from PA66 polymer rated V-0 for flame resistance and tested to 960°C glow wire, with a silicone gasket providing the IP68 seal between the lid and base. The assembly remains functional across a temperature range of -30°C to +85°C, covering typical UK seasonal extremes and direct sunlight heating. The black finish reduces visual prominence when surface-mounted on exterior walls or fence posts.

The internal gel displaces air around the connections, preventing moisture ingress even if the cable glands are imperfectly seated, and provides additional mechanical cushioning against ground movement in buried installations. The 134 x 126 x 32mm body gives enough internal volume for four cables to be looped through with adequate bend radius without stressing the cores.

Frequently Asked

What does IP68 mean in practical terms?

IP68 is the highest solid and liquid ingress protection rating in the IP code. The '6' means total dust-tight protection, and the '8' means the enclosure can withstand continuous immersion in water under pressure — in this case up to 5 bar, equivalent to approximately 50 metres depth. This makes the box suitable for installation in saturated ground, pond edges and locations subject to flooding.

What cable sizes does it accept?

The box accepts H07RNF 3-core cables from 0.75mm² to 2.5mm² cross-section, with outer diameters between 5mm and 14mm. The four M22 cable glands accommodate this range. Standard 1.5mm² twin-and-earth or 2.5mm² SWA outer diameters typically fall within this range once stripped back to the cores.

Is the gel messy to work with?

The box arrives pre-filled with insulating gel, so no additional compound needs to be added. The gel is viscous and stays in place during installation. Some gel may transfer to hands and tools during wiring — disposable gloves are recommended. The gel does not harden or cure, so connections can be inspected or modified later without drilling out set resin.

Can it be buried directly in soil?

Yes. The IP68 rating and gel-filled design make the box suitable for direct burial in soil, gravel or sand without additional ducting. Ensure cables entering the box have adequate strain relief and are not under tension from ground settlement. Mark the burial location for future reference.
