Description

The Knightsbridge SF8909SB is a 230V single-voltage shaver socket with built-in USB-A and USB-C charging ports, housed behind a smoked bronze screwless faceplate with a black insert. The socket provides 20VA output for electric shavers and toothbrushes, while the dual USB ports deliver 5V DC at 2.4A (shared) for charging phones, tablets and other small devices.

Designed for bathroom installation, the unit carries an IP41 rating protecting against solid objects larger than 1mm and vertically-falling water droplets. The built-in gasket seals the faceplate against the wall, preventing moisture ingress around the mounting box. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings once installed. The 47mm minimum mounting box depth accommodates the transformer and USB circuitry behind the wall.

The smoked bronze finish is a dark, warm metallic tone that sits between gunmetal and aged brass, pairing well with industrial, contemporary and warm-toned traditional bathroom schemes. The black insert behind the faceplate hides the back of the cover plate and defines the aperture edges for the shaver socket and USB ports. Can this be installed in bathroom zones 1 or 2?

The IP41 rating and EN 61558 certification make this suitable for bathroom installation outside zones 0, 1 and 2. Check current UK wiring regulations (BS 7671) for exact zone placement — typically shaver sockets are installed in zone 3 or outside zones, at least 600mm from bath or shower edges.

What's the USB charging output?

The dual USB ports provide 5V DC at 2.4A shared between the USB-A and USB-C connections. If both ports are in use simultaneously, the 2.4A is split between devices rather than each port delivering 2.4A independently.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed to accommodate the transformer and USB circuitry. The screwless faceplate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for tiling or painting around the socket and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
