Description
The Knightsbridge BL20ALEDS is a 22W LED bulkhead with an integrated passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor, housed in a white polycarbonate body rated IP54 for dust and water splash resistance. The integrated SMD LED array delivers 2000lm at 4000K cool white, and the PIR sensor automatically activates the light when motion is detected within its range, switching off after a preset delay.
Designed for surface mounting in hallways, stairwells, washrooms, garages, external porches and storage areas where hands-free activation reduces wasted runtime and energy consumption. The IP54 rating allows installation in covered outdoor locations and interior damp environments including bathrooms (zones 2-3) and commercial washrooms. The 400mm diameter and 96mm projection suit standard wall and soffit installations on brick, blockwork or timber surfaces.
The polycarbonate construction provides impact resistance (Class II insulation) and UV stability for outdoor mounting under canopies and overhangs. The diffuser covers the entire face of the bulkhead, distributing light at a 110° beam angle to cover a wide area from a single mounting point. The L70B50 rating of 30,000 hours indicates the LED will maintain 70% of its original output after approximately 10 years of typical use at 8 hours per day.

Frequently Asked
What is the PIR sensor range and delay?
The PIR sensor detects motion within a typical range of 6-8 metres, though the exact detection angle and distance vary with mounting height and ambient temperature. The time delay before the light switches off after motion ceases is preset at factory level, typically between 30 seconds and 3 minutes depending on the specific sensor module fitted.
Can this be used outdoors?
Yes, but only in covered locations. The IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for exterior mounting under canopies, porches, carports and overhangs. It is not rated for direct exposure to heavy rain or submersion.
Is the bulkhead dimmable?
No. The integrated SMD LED operates at full output when activated by the PIR sensor. There is no dimming capability on this model.
What wiring connections are required?
The bulkhead requires a standard 230V mains supply with live, neutral and earth connections. Class II insulation means the earth connection is for safety bonding of any exposed metal components, not for primary electrical protection. The PIR sensor operates automatically and does not require a separate switch circuit, though one can be added upstream if manual override is needed.
