Description

This 20m CAT5 Ethernet cable connects IP cameras to network recorders or switches over distances up to 20 metres. The cable uses twisted 4-pair copper wiring terminated at both ends with RJ45 connectors, removing the need for on-site crimping or soldering. The polyethylene outer jacket provides water resistance and UV protection for external runs along walls, under eaves or through conduit.

Designed for CCTV installations where cameras are mounted on building exteriors, perimeter fencing or outbuildings, the cable carries both data and power when paired with Power over Ethernet (PoE) injectors or PoE-capable switches. The 20m length suits single-storey residential installations, small commercial premises and positions where the camera is within direct line-of-sight of the recorder location. The cable can be run exposed where protected from direct mechanical damage, or threaded through external conduit for added protection.

The twisted-pair construction reduces electromagnetic interference from nearby power cables, improving signal reliability over long runs. The polyethylene jacket resists water ingress in wet conditions and remains flexible in cold weather, making it suitable for year-round outdoor use in UK climates. The pre-terminated RJ45 connectors clip directly into standard IP camera ports and network switch ports without modification.

Can this cable be used outdoors?

Yes. The polyethylene jacket is designed for external applications and resists water ingress and UV degradation. For maximum lifespan, run the cable through conduit where possible, or secure it away from areas where it might be walked on or mechanically damaged.

Does it support Power over Ethernet?

CAT5 cable supports PoE when paired with a PoE injector or PoE-capable network switch. The cable itself carries both data and power over the twisted pairs, eliminating the need for a separate power supply at the camera location.

What's the maximum data rate?

CAT5 supports up to 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet), which is sufficient for most IP cameras operating at 1080p or lower resolutions. For 4K cameras or higher data rates, consider upgrading to CAT5e or CAT6 cable.

Are the RJ45 connectors moulded or crimped?

The cable comes pre-terminated with RJ45 connectors. These are factory-fitted for reliability and do not require on-site crimping or additional tools to install.
