Description
The Knightsbridge 20A DP lockable switch provides key-operated control of high-load circuits such as immersion heaters, storage heaters, and commercial equipment. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, and the central chrome-finish key barrel allows the switch to be locked in either the ON or OFF position. Two keys are supplied with each unit.
Designed for healthcare facilities, shared housing, commercial premises, and domestic installations where controlled access to electrical circuits is required, the lockable function prevents unauthorised operation of the connected load. The 20A rating handles continuous loads up to 4,600W on 230V circuits. The switch fits a standard 35mm minimum back box depth and complies with BS EN 60669-1 for household and similar fixed electrical installations.
The 7mm rounded edge faceplate is moulded from thermoset resin with a matt white finish and integrated anti-microbial treatment. The contoured profile softens the visual presence of the switch on the wall and the IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations. The white finish pairs with standard matt white switch and socket ranges, providing a consistent appearance across multi-gang installations.

Frequently Asked
What loads can a 20A switch handle?
A 20A switch can handle continuous loads up to 4,600W on a 230V circuit. Typical applications include immersion heaters, storage heaters, underfloor heating systems, and commercial equipment such as water boilers or air conditioning units.
Can the switch be locked in both positions?
Yes. The key barrel allows the switch to be locked in either the ON position or the OFF position, preventing unauthorised changes to the circuit state. Two keys are supplied with each unit.
What back box depth is required?
A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The switch projects 9.1mm from the wall surface once fitted, with a total installed depth of 38.4mm from the wall to the front of the faceplate.
What does the anti-microbial finish do?
The anti-microbial treatment integrated into the thermoset resin inhibits bacterial growth on the surface of the faceplate. This is particularly useful in healthcare, hospitality, and shared facilities where hygiene is a priority.
