Description
The Knightsbridge 18W LED eyelid bulkhead is a wall-mounted outdoor light fitting with an integrated photocell daylight sensor and CCT-adjustable LED gear tray. The die-cast aluminium body is finished in grey powder coat, and the eyelid hood sits above an opal polycarbonate diffuser that covers the 360mm circular face. The photocell switches the bulkhead on automatically at dusk and off at dawn, removing the need for manual switching or timers.
Designed for exterior walls on commercial buildings, residential façades, parking areas, pathway lighting and communal areas, the bulkhead carries an IP65 rating for dust and water ingress protection. The eyelid hood directs light downward and reduces upward glare, making the fitting suitable for locations near windows or where light pollution is a consideration. The 94mm projection from the wall gives clearance for surface-mount wiring and standard back boxes.
The LED gear tray is adjustable for three colour temperatures: 3000K (1020lm warm white), 4000K (1080lm neutral white) and 6000K (1090lm cool white). The selection is made via a switch on the gear tray before installation, allowing the colour temperature to be matched to the surrounding lighting scheme. The constant-current driver runs at 18W and the SMD LED array is rated for 50,000 hours to L70 (70% lumen maintenance), which equates to approximately 13 years at 10 hours per night operation. The die-cast aluminium construction and impact-resistant polycarbonate diffuser provide anti-vandal protection in exposed public areas.

Frequently Asked
How does the photocell sensor work?
The integrated photocell detects ambient light levels and switches the bulkhead on automatically when daylight falls below a preset threshold (typically at dusk) and off again at dawn. The sensor does not require programming or manual intervention once wired to mains power.
Can the colour temperature be changed after installation?
The CCT selection switch is on the LED gear tray inside the bulkhead. Changing the colour temperature after installation requires removing the diffuser and accessing the gear tray, so it is best set during the initial fitting. The three settings are 3000K (warm white), 4000K (neutral white) and 6000K (cool white).
Is the bulkhead suitable for coastal or high-moisture environments?
The IP65 rating provides protection against dust and low-pressure water jets, making the bulkhead suitable for most UK outdoor environments including coastal areas. However, direct exposure to salt spray over time may degrade the powder-coated finish, so periodic inspection and cleaning is recommended in marine environments.
What fixing method is used?
The bulkhead surface-mounts to exterior walls via three fixing points on the rear plate. Standard wall plugs and screws are used for masonry or brick, and the 94mm projection allows clearance for surface-mount conduit or back boxes. The diffuser is secured with stainless steel screws.
