Description
The Knightsbridge 18W LED eyelid bulkhead combines three critical functions in one 360mm die-cast aluminium housing: mains lighting, emergency backup, and photocell daylight sensing. The integrated SMD LED gear tray is CCT-adjustable across three colour temperatures (3000K at 1020lm, 4000K at 1080lm, 6000K at 1090lm), selected on installation via a switch on the driver. The IP65-rated black aluminium body and impact-resistant polycarbonate diffuser protect the electronics from dust, rain and hose-down conditions.
Designed for external building perimeters, loading bays, car parks, pathways and other safety-critical outdoor zones, the bulkhead provides three emergency modes: maintained (always on), non-maintained (activates only on mains failure), and switched (manually controlled with emergency override). The photocell sensor automatically switches the light on at dusk and off at dawn, reducing manual intervention and energy consumption. The eyelid cowl at the top of the fitting reduces upward light spill and directs output downward, minimising glare and light pollution.
The die-cast aluminium construction provides heat dissipation for the LED driver and resists corrosion in coastal or high-humidity environments. Anti-vandal fixings secure the diffuser to the body, making unauthorised removal more difficult in public or high-traffic areas. The 110-degree beam angle gives broad coverage without creating harsh shadows on paths or entrances. The fitting measures 360mm diameter by 94mm projection from the wall and weighs approximately 2.5kg installed.
The emergency battery provides 105-120lm output (depending on CCT selected) for up to three hours during mains failure, meeting UK emergency lighting standards for escape routes and final exits. The L70B50 rating of 50,000 hours indicates the LED will retain at least 70% of its initial output after approximately six years of continuous operation. The 5-year warranty covers the LED driver and housing but excludes the emergency battery, which is a consumable component.

Frequently Asked
How does the daylight sensor work?
The photocell sensor detects ambient light levels and automatically switches the bulkhead on at dusk and off at dawn. This reduces manual switching and prevents the light from operating during daylight hours when not needed, saving energy.
What are the three emergency modes?
Maintained mode keeps the light on continuously, drawing from mains power and switching to battery during power cuts. Non-maintained mode activates the light only when mains power fails. Switched mode allows manual control via a wall switch while still providing emergency backup during power failures.
Can the colour temperature be changed after installation?
The CCT is selected on installation using a switch on the LED driver accessed by removing the diffuser. Once set to 3000K, 4000K or 6000K, the colour temperature remains fixed until the driver is accessed again and manually changed.
Is the fitting suitable for coastal environments?
The die-cast aluminium body with black powder-coated finish and IP65 rating provides protection from salt spray and high humidity. The aluminium construction resists corrosion better than steel-bodied bulkheads in coastal installations.
