Description
The Knightsbridge Sherpa 18W LED bulkhead combines a microwave motion sensor with a CCT-switchable LED gear tray in a die-cast aluminium housing. The sensor detects movement through the opal polycarbonate diffuser, triggering the light without requiring a wall-mounted PIR, and the CCT switch on the gear tray allows selection between 3000K (1680lm), 4000K (1790lm) or 6000K (1810lm) output depending on the application.
Designed for outdoor wall and soffit mounting in commercial, residential and industrial settings, the bulkhead suits building perimeters, bin stores, car parks, pathways and loading bays where motion-activated lighting reduces energy use and deters unauthorised access. The IP65 rating seals the housing against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, allowing year-round outdoor use in UK weather. The 360mm diameter and 92mm projection give enough coverage for doorways and alcoves without dominating smaller wall areas.
The die-cast aluminium body dissipates heat from the 18W SMD LED array, supporting the 50,000-hour L70B50 rating. The anti-vandal polycarbonate diffuser resists impact without shattering, making the fitting suitable for public-facing and unsupervised locations. The black powder-coat finish hides dust and weathering better than lighter colours in high-particulate environments. The constant-current driver operates on 230V 50Hz mains and the fitting carries a 5-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently Asked
How does the microwave sensor work?
The microwave sensor detects movement through the polycarbonate diffuser using radio frequency waves, triggering the light when motion is detected within range. This differs from PIR sensors which detect infrared heat. The sensor is integrated into the fitting, so no separate wall-mounted PIR is needed.
How do I change the colour temperature?
The LED gear tray inside the bulkhead has a CCT selector switch accessible when the diffuser is removed. The switch allows selection between 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, or 6000K cool white. The colour temperature is set during installation and is not dynamically adjustable once fitted.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
The IP65 rating and die-cast aluminium construction provide good resistance to moisture and dust, but coastal environments with salt spray can accelerate corrosion of metal fittings. Regular cleaning and inspection are recommended in marine locations.
What detection range does the sensor have?
Microwave sensor range varies with mounting height and angle. Typical detection range for this type of sensor is 8-12m radius when mounted at 2.5-3m height, but consult the product manual for specific coverage data and adjustment instructions.
