Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides switched control and overcurrent protection for permanently wired appliances behind a matt white screwless faceplate. The unit houses a 13A fuse cartridge and a rocker switch, allowing the connected appliance to be isolated without accessing the consumer unit. Typical applications include wired-in kitchen extractors, bathroom extractor fans, water heaters, and fixed lighting circuits.

Designed for residential and commercial installation, the fused spur fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, giving a clean wall finish without visible fixings once installed. The matt white finish suits contemporary white and light neutral interiors, and the 87.5mm square footprint matches standard UK single-gang switch plates for consistent wall layouts.

The unit is constructed from steel plate rather than polymer and carries a 25-year warranty. It's certified to BS 1363-4 and rated IP20 for indoor use in dry locations. The fuse holder inside the unit accepts standard 13A BS 1362 fuse cartridges, which can be replaced without removing the faceplate by opening the fuse access door on the front of the unit.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between a fused spur and a standard socket?

A fused spur is designed for permanently wired appliances rather than plug-in devices. The appliance cable is wired directly into the back of the unit, and the fuse cartridge inside provides overcurrent protection for that specific appliance. This is required by Building Regulations for certain fixed appliances like bathroom extractors and kitchen hoods.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds approximately 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a low-profile finish.

Can the fuse be replaced without removing the faceplate?

Yes. The fuse holder has an access door on the front of the unit. The fuse cartridge can be pulled out and replaced without removing the screwless cover plate or accessing the back box wiring.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the unit and re-clipped without re-wiring.
