Description

This Knightsbridge 13A 2-gang DP switched socket features twin earth terminals and a white rounded edge plate with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the socket is turned off, providing additional safety for high-draw appliances or installations where complete circuit isolation is needed.

Designed for residential, commercial and healthcare environments, the socket fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses captive terminals accessible from the top of the back plate to speed up installation. The rounded edge profile sits 7mm proud of the wall surface, giving a softer visual line than standard flat-plate sockets. Twin earth terminals allow two earth cables to be terminated within the socket, supporting installations where separate earth continuity is needed between back boxes.

The white thermoset resin construction carries ASTA approval (license 1412) and complies with BS 1363-2:2016+A1:2018. The anti-microbial properties reduce bacterial growth on the plate surface, making the socket suitable for kitchens, bathrooms within IP20 dry zones, care facilities and other high-touch environments. The 13A rating handles standard UK appliance loads up to 3,120W per outlet. Knightsbridge backs the socket with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What does DP switched mean?

DP (double pole) switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the socket is turned off, rather than just the live. This provides a higher level of safety and is required in certain installations such as kitchens, workshops and locations where appliances may be left plugged in when not in use.

What are twin earth terminals used for?

Twin earth terminals allow two separate earth cables to be connected within the socket. This is typically needed in ring-main installations where the earth continuity must be maintained between back boxes, or where separate earth connections are required by the circuit design.

What does anti-microbial mean in practice?

The thermoset resin plate has been treated to inhibit bacterial growth on the surface, tested to ISO 22196:2011. This makes the socket suitable for kitchens, bathrooms (within dry IP20 zones), care homes and other high-touch environments where hygiene is a priority. The treatment does not replace regular cleaning.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The socket plate itself projects 7mm from the wall surface once fitted. Top access captive terminals speed up wiring without needing to remove terminal screws entirely.
