The Knightsbridge 13A 2-gang DP switched socket adds one USB-A and one USB-C charging port behind a white rounded-edge faceplate with anti-microbial protection tested to ISO 22196:2011. The dual-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the socket is switched off, providing additional safety for high-draw appliances and overnight isolation.

Designed for residential, hospitality and care home installation, the socket fits a standard 25-35mm back box depth depending on wiring conditions and uses captive screw terminals with top access for faster first-fix wiring. Twin earth terminals allow ring-main continuation without external junction boxes. The 13A rating handles standard UK appliance loads up to 3,120W per outlet.

The white thermoset resin construction provides a durable, impact-resistant finish that resists yellowing over time. The 7mm rounded edge profile softens the wall transition compared to flat-plate designs and sits comfortably in both traditional and contemporary interiors. A minimum 25mm back box depth is acceptable in straightforward installations. Where multiple cables enter the back box or where space behind the wall is limited, a 35mm depth box (Knightsbridge CU1800 for surface mounting) is recommended to accommodate wiring without compression.

What is the USB charging output?

The dual USB charger delivers a combined 5V DC 3.1A output shared between the USB-A and USB-C ports. This is sufficient for overnight phone charging or low-draw USB accessories but does not support fast-charge protocols like USB-PD or Quick Charge.

What does the anti-microbial protection do?

The faceplate is manufactured with an anti-microbial additive that inhibits bacterial growth on the surface, tested to ISO 22196:2011. This makes the socket suitable for high-touch environments including care homes, hospitals, nurseries and shared office spaces where hygiene is a priority.

Can the faceplate be removed for redecorating?

The rounded-edge design uses a single front plate fixed by visible screws to the mounting frame. The screws can be removed to take off the faceplate for painting around the socket, then refitted once decoration is complete.
