Description
The Knightsbridge PM9RCD is a 13A 2-gang DP switched socket with an integrated 30mA Type-A latching RCD, outboard rocker switches and an anthracite thermoset resin faceplate. The Type-A RCD protects against both AC residual currents and pulsating DC currents up to 6mA, making it suitable for circuits serving IT equipment, LED drivers and devices with electronic components that can produce DC leakage.
Designed to meet Building Regulations Part M, the socket provides adequate contrast between the anthracite faceplate and the white rocker switches, achieving the recommended 30% Light Reflectance Value (LRV) difference for accessible installations. The outboard rockers sit above the socket outlets rather than between them, making them easier to locate and operate for users with reduced dexterity or vision. The latching (passive) RCD automatically resets following mains power restoration, removing the need for manual intervention after power cuts.
The socket requires a minimum 35mm back box depth and uses captive screw terminals for secure cable retention. Dual earth terminals allow onward earth continuity without additional connector blocks. The thermoset resin construction carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial surface contamination in healthcare, hospitality and high-traffic commercial environments. The curved edge design sits flush to the wall with a 10mm projection from the mounting surface.

What is Type-A RCD protection and when is it needed?
Type-A RCD protects against both standard AC residual currents and pulsating DC currents up to 6mA. It is required where circuits serve equipment with electronic components that can produce DC leakage, such as LED drivers, IT equipment, variable speed drives, EV chargers and photovoltaic inverters. Type-A offers broader protection than older Type-AC RCDs.
What does latching (passive) RCD mean?
A latching RCD automatically resets when mains power is restored after an outage, without requiring manual intervention. If the RCD has tripped due to a fault, it will remain tripped and must be manually reset via the green reset button. This behaviour prevents nuisance call-outs in commercial and rental properties following power cuts.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 35mm back box depth is required to accommodate the RCD module and terminals. The socket projects 10mm from the wall surface once installed.
