Description

The Knightsbridge 120° PIR sensor module is a 50x50mm passive infrared motion detector designed to fit euro modular grid frames. The module detects movement within a 120° arc up to 5 metres away and automatically switches connected lighting on when motion is detected under low ambient light conditions. An override button on the face allows manual switching from AUTO mode to constant ON when extended lighting is needed.

Designed for residential hallways, en-suites, utility rooms and commercial washrooms where hands-free lighting control reduces energy waste, the module operates on 230V mains and handles loads up to 100W LED or 200W incandescent. The fixed three-minute timer switches the light off after the last detected movement, while the fixed lux threshold ensures the sensor only activates in low-light conditions, preventing operation during daylight hours.

The module fits a 47mm minimum back box depth and slots into any compatible 50x50mm euro modular grid system. The black polycarbonate face sits flush with the surrounding faceplate once installed. The sensor lens is recessed into the face, reducing the risk of accidental contact or damage. Live and neutral wiring connects to screw terminals on the rear of the module, with clearly marked connections for load switching. The Class II construction requires no earth connection.

Frequently Asked

What does the override button do?

The override button switches the module from AUTO mode (where it activates on detected motion) to constant ON. This is useful when you need continuous lighting for an extended period without triggering the motion sensor repeatedly. The module returns to AUTO mode after the pre-set timer expires.

Can the timer or lux threshold be adjusted?

No. The three-minute timer and lux threshold are factory-set and cannot be adjusted in the field. The sensor will only activate when ambient light falls below the fixed threshold, preventing operation during daylight.

What faceplate is needed?

The module requires a compatible euro modular grid faceplate that accepts 50x50mm modules. Knightsbridge produces grid plates in various finishes and gang configurations. The faceplate is sold separately and must be matched to the number of modules being installed in the same back box.

Is it suitable for bathroom installation?

The IP20 rating means the module is only protected against solid objects larger than 12.5mm and has no water ingress protection. It can be used in bathrooms outside the designated zones (typically Zone 0, 1, and 2), but not within reach of a shower or bath enclosure.
