Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch provides triple-pole isolation for bathroom extractor fans, utility room ventilation and kitchen extraction units, allowing the fan circuit to be switched off independently while the lighting circuit remains live. The smoked bronze screwless faceplate measures 87.5mm square with a 4.3mm projection from the wall, and the cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame to hide all fixings.

Designed for residential bathrooms, en-suites, utility rooms and commercial washrooms, the switch fits a shallow 16mm minimum back box depth and carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor locations. The triple-pole configuration isolates live, neutral and switched live lines simultaneously, ensuring the fan is fully disconnected when the switch is in the off position. The rocker is labelled 'FAN' and 'ISOLATOR' with clear ON/OFF markings.

The smoked bronze finish is a mid-tone metallic brown with a low-sheen surface that resists fingerprints better than polished finishes and pairs well with darker timber joinery, graphite tiles and warm-toned contemporary bathrooms. The premium-grade steel construction includes a built-in gasket that sits flush against the wall once the cover plate is clipped on, reducing dust ingress around the edge. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and EN 60669-2-4 and carries a 25-year warranty.

A fan isolator switch allows you to disconnect an extractor fan from the power supply independently of the lighting circuit. This is required by UK building regulations for bathrooms and utility rooms, allowing safe maintenance or replacement of the fan without isolating the entire room's electrical supply.

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, making this a low-profile installation suitable for stud walls and shallow back boxes.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes, provided it is installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined by BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations). The IP20 rating means the switch is not splash-proof, so it must be positioned away from direct water contact. Most installations place the isolator outside the bathroom door or on a wall adjacent to the door frame.

Is the screwless plate removable?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for redecorating and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
