Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang intermediate switch provides three-way switching control behind a matt white screwless faceplate with a matching white rocker. An intermediate switch sits between two two-way switches in a circuit, allowing a single light or group of lights to be controlled from three separate locations — typically used on staircases with switches at ground floor, mid-landing and upper floor.

Designed for residential staircases, long hallways and commercial corridors where lighting control is needed from more than two points, the switch handles loads up to 10A (2,300W) at 230V. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. The 16mm minimum back box depth makes it compatible with shallow wall cavities and retrofit installations.

The matt white finish has a low-sheen surface that resists fingerprint marks and blends into white or light-coloured walls without creating a strong contrast. The premium-grade steel construction includes an integrated gasket behind the faceplate to improve dust and moisture resistance up to IP20 rating. The switch carries a 25-year warranty and is certified to EN 60669-1 standards.

What's the difference between an intermediate switch and a two-way switch?

A two-way switch controls a light from two locations. An intermediate switch sits between two two-way switches to add a third control point. For example, a staircase might have two-way switches at the bottom and top, with an intermediate switch on the mid-landing.

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, making this one of the slimmest profile switches in the Knightsbridge range.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
