Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang DP switch provides double pole switching in a smoked bronze screwless faceplate with a matching bronze rocker. The 10AX rating handles loads up to 2,300W on a 230V supply, making it suitable for lighting circuits, bathroom extractor fans with boost functions, and other low-to-medium draw appliances where full isolation is required.

Double pole switching isolates both live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, providing complete circuit isolation rather than just breaking the live line as a single-pole switch does. This is particularly useful in bathrooms where an extractor fan needs to be independently controlled from the main light, or in kitchens where under-cabinet lighting is wired on a separate circuit. The switch fits a standard single-gang 35mm UK back box with a minimum depth of 16mm.

The smoked bronze finish is a dark metallic grey-brown with a brushed texture that diffuses reflections and ages gracefully in high-traffic areas. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, eliminating visible fixings on the wall once installed. The 87.5mm square plate projects just 4.3mm from the wall, giving a low-profile finish that works in period properties with shallow back boxes as well as modern installations.

Frequently Asked

What is double pole switching and when is it required?

Double pole (DP) switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when turned off, whereas single-pole switches only break the live. DP is not required by wiring regulations for most lighting circuits, but it is useful in bathrooms for controlling extractor fans with boost functions, and in kitchens where appliances or under-cabinet lighting need complete isolation. It also provides an extra margin of safety when servicing circuits.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum of 16mm back box depth is needed. The switch will fit standard 25mm or 35mm single-gang back boxes. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Can the screwless plate be removed for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be unclipped for painting or wallpapering around the switch, then re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.

What other finishes are available in this range?

Knightsbridge produces this style in a range of finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, antique brass, matt black and white. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
