Description

This is a single coaxial socket on a screwless plate, giving an aerial connection in a small, tidy square. The gloss piano black front is deep and reflective, nearer a lacquered surface than a painted one, and the plate measures 88mm square. Its face is unbroken by screw heads, which is the point of the screwless design: what you see is a flat black square with the coaxial connector at its centre.

We would fit it wherever the aerial feed has to arrive somewhere that gets looked at: beside a wall-hung television, in a bedroom, or in a study where the kit sits on a shelf rather than hidden in a cabinet. It handles the television signal only, so it often ends up as part of a small group of plates behind a screen. Keep it to dry indoor rooms; the circuit it serves is low voltage signal rather than mains power, and it is the plate we reach for when white would stand out too sharply against a dark wall.

The plate is moulded in polycarbonate rather than pressed from metal, so it is light in the hand and the black runs through the material as well as across the gloss. Fingerprints show, as they do on any high-shine surface, so give it a wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it off straight away; polishes, solvents and cream cleaners will haze the shine permanently, so keep all of them well clear. It carries a ten year warranty. Against dark paint, deep panelling or a charcoal media wall it reads as a small piece of punctuation instead of a bright white interruption, and that is usually the reason people pick it over a standard white plate.

Frequently Asked

What size is the front plate?

It is 88mm by 88mm, the usual single-plate footprint, so it lines up neatly with other single plates in a row.

What is it made from?

The plate is moulded polycarbonate with a piano black gloss finish. It is a light component at around 65g.

Can it go in a bathroom or outside?

No. It is rated IP20 and intended for indoor use only, so keep it to dry rooms well away from splashing.

Is this suitable for satellite as well as an aerial?

It is a single coaxial socket for a television aerial feed and low voltage signal circuits. A satellite run needs a dedicated satellite socket instead.

How do I keep the gloss looking sharp?

A barely damp cloth followed by a dry one is all it needs. Avoid polishes, solvent cleaners and anything abrasive, as they will dull the shine for good.

Is there a warranty on it?

Yes, the plate carries a ten year warranty from the manufacturer.
