Description
A television point needs somewhere to end, and this is the tidy way to finish it: a coaxial connector set into a flat light grey plate with no screw heads showing on the face. The plate is a square of 88mm, shallow at the back, so it asks very little of the wall. Light grey is a softer choice than white and warmer than slate, and it holds its own against grey and greige paint without vanishing into it.
We reach for this in sitting rooms and bedrooms where the aerial cable arrives behind the television and nobody wants to see it again. It suits media walls, snugs and holiday lets, and it is just as useful in a bedroom where a small set sits on a chest of drawers. Being a passive low voltage part, it does nothing more than pass the signal from the aerial cable to your lead, so it serves a set top box or a recorder as readily as the television itself. Keep it to dry rooms indoors.
The plate and the connector housing are moulded in polycarbonate, a tough plastic that keeps its colour rather than yellowing the way thinner mouldings can. For cleaning, a cloth wrung out in warm soapy water and then a dry one is all it wants; keep cream cleaners and solvents off it, as both will dull the surface of the moulding. It carries a ten year warranty. Our own preference is to keep a wall consistent, matching the screwless light grey face here to the other plates in the room so the eye slides over the lot instead of stopping at each one. There is no lamp or bulb involved, and no lead supplied with it.

Frequently Asked
What size is the plate?
The face measures 88mm by 88mm, and the moulding sits 25mm deep at the back.
What is it made from?
The plate and connector housing are moulded polycarbonate in a light grey finish.
Will it take a satellite feed?
It is a coaxial aerial connection for television and aerial feeds. For satellite, a dedicated satellite socket with an F connector is the usual choice.
Can I use it in a bathroom or an outbuilding?
No. It is rated IP20 and intended for dry indoor rooms only.
How long is the warranty?
Ten years, from the manufacturer.
How should I clean the plate?
Wipe it with a cloth wrung out in warm soapy water and dry it straight after. Avoid abrasive creams and solvent cleaners, which take the sheen off polycarbonate.
