Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang surface box is a black polycarbonate mounting box for switches and sockets where surface mounting is needed instead of flush installation. At 92.5mm square with a 32mm internal depth, it provides space for cable terminations behind single-gang screwless or flat plate accessories.

Used in commercial fit-outs, garage installations, workshops and retrofit residential projects where cutting into walls is impractical, the surface box fixes directly to a wall or panel with screws through the integral mounting lugs. Once fixed, a compatible switch or socket clips or screws onto the front of the box, concealing the wiring inside. The 32mm depth accommodates standard cable runs and terminations for single-gang accessories up to 13A load.

The black polycarbonate construction is impact-resistant and rated IP20 for indoor use. The box carries no earth terminal, so earth continuity must be maintained through the accessory or a separate earth flying lead. Knightsbridge backs the surface box with a 25-year warranty against material failure under normal use.

The 92.5mm square footprint accepts any single-gang Knightsbridge screwless or flat plate switch or socket. Check that the accessory you plan to use is compatible with surface mounting rather than flush-only installation.

Does the box include an earth terminal?

No. Earth continuity must be maintained through the accessory itself or via a separate earth flying lead connected to the metal mounting frame of the switch or socket.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating is for indoor dry locations only. Outdoor or wet-location installations require a weatherproof IP-rated enclosure.

How is it fixed to the wall?

The surface box has integral mounting lugs with screw holes. Fix it directly to a wall, panel or stud using appropriate screws and wall plugs for the substrate type. Once secured, the accessory faceplate covers the fixings.
