Description

The Knightsbridge SF2191AT is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer rated for 10-200W incandescent or halogen loads and 5-150W dimmable LED loads, housed behind an anthracite screwless faceplate with a matching dimmer knob. The dimmer automatically detects lamp type and switches between trailing-edge mode (default, optimised for LEDs) and leading-edge mode (for traditional incandescent and halogen lamps) using a front-mounted control sequence.

Designed for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and studies where variable lighting levels are needed, the dimmer installs in a standard 25mm minimum back box and operates on 2-way switching circuits. The push-on rotary knob turns the light on or off with a press, and dims or brightens by rotating clockwise or anticlockwise. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate steel sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once fitted.

The anthracite finish is a mid-tone metallic grey darker than brushed chrome but lighter than matt black, pairing well with contemporary and industrial interiors. The faceplate is pressed from premium-grade steel with a low-profile projection of 4.3mm from the wall surface. Built-in overload and overheat protection cut power if the dimmer exceeds safe operating temperature or the connected load exceeds the rated wattage, preventing damage to the circuit or the dimmer itself.

For reliable performance, the dimmer should control a single lamp type and wattage — avoid mixing LED brands, mixing LED with incandescent, or connecting widely different wattages on the same circuit. This prevents flicker and ensures the automatic mode detection can stabilise correctly.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge mode?

Trailing-edge mode (the default) works with dimmable LED and low-voltage halogen lamps, providing smoother dimming with less flicker. Leading-edge mode suits traditional incandescent and mains-voltage halogen lamps. The dimmer auto-detects lamp type, but you can manually switch modes using the front control knob if needed.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The dimmer has a recessed depth of 21.3mm, and the screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted.

Can I mix LED and incandescent bulbs on the same circuit?

No. Mixing lamp types or brands on the same dimmer circuit can cause flicker, buzzing or unreliable dimming. Use the same lamp type, brand and wattage across all bulbs controlled by this dimmer for best performance.

How do I reset the dimmer or change modes?

Press and hold the rotary knob for several seconds until the light flashes. This resets the dimmer and allows it to re-detect the lamp type. The product specification sheet (linked above) contains the full mode-switching sequence.
