Mirrors

How we hand-pick our mirror range

We hand-pick a broad mirror range from specialist makers we work with directly, selecting for build quality, frame finish, glass weight and how the proportions read on a real wall rather than in a product shot. The range spans wall-mounted pieces, full-length floor mirrors, shape-led rounds and arches, and gold-finished frames, with a small group of natural-stone alabaster pieces listed under alabaster mirrors.

The selection runs from clean modern and traditional frames through to bolder decorative, glam and industrial-style pieces, with ornate and bevelled detail throughout. The result is a single mirror range with depth across shape, finish, size and placement, rather than a thin grid filled from one supplier.

Shape: round, rectangular, arched and more

Shape is the first decision when buying a mirror, and it changes the way the piece sits in the room more than the finish or frame does. Rectangular mirrors make up about half of the range, with round the next most common, then smaller groups of arched, irregular and oval shapes. Rectangular mirrors read as architectural and sit naturally above sideboards, behind sofas and along hallway runs. Round mirrors soften a wall and work well on their own as a single feature; the full round-only range sits at round mirrors.

Arched mirrors borrow from doorway and window forms and give a mirror architectural weight without the bulk of a heavy frame; the dedicated edit sits at arched mirrors. Oval shapes read softer than a rectangle but with more vertical reach than a circle. Irregular shapes such as petal, asymmetric and organic forms work as decorative pieces in their own right, more sculptural than functional.

Wall mirrors above the sofa, sideboard or mantel

On a wall, a mirror usually has one of three jobs: anchor the space above a sofa, sit centred above a sideboard or console, or hang over the mantel as the room's main feature. Above a sofa, the mirror should sit roughly 20 to 30 cm above the back of the seat and span around two-thirds of the sofa width. Above a sideboard, the same two-thirds rule applies, with the bottom edge sitting 15 to 25 cm above the surface. A mirror placed opposite a window pulls daylight deeper into the room, effectively doubling the usable light during the day.

Full-length and floor mirrors

For head-to-toe reflection, the range carries full-length floor mirrors: leaner mirrors that rest at a shallow angle against the wall, alongside a smaller group of freestanding and cheval frames. US shoppers searching for a floor mirror, standing mirror or oversized mirror will find the same pieces here. The full floor-standing edit sits at full-length mirrors. Any tall floor-standing mirror should be anchored with an anti-tip strap behind the top edge, on a level, non-slip surface.

Hallway mirrors that open up tight entrances

A hallway mirror pulls light into corridors that often have no window of their own, gives a final outfit check on the way out the door, and visually widens narrow runs. UK homes in particular tend to have long, slim hallways where a tall rectangular or arched mirror, hung portrait, opens up the space without crowding it. For a chimney breast in the entrance, a long, low over-mantel piece is the traditional fit; that placement sits at over-mantel mirrors.

Gold, silver, black: finishes that read across a room

The finish range runs across black and gold through silver, grey, white, clear and bronze, with black and gold the most common. Gold is the single largest finish-led demand across the range: a champagne or aged-gold frame sits well alongside warm wood, cream upholstery and brass lighting, and the full gold edit sits at gold mirrors. Silver finishes work in cooler grey, blue and white schemes; black frames read sharper and more architectural; grey and bronze tones sit between the two and layer easily across rooms.

Modern, traditional and ornate frames

Frame style runs across the range, led by modern frames, then frameless, with smaller groups of ornate and traditional pieces, and a few bevelled and vintage-style ones. Modern frames carry a clean profile: flat metal bands, thin timber edges, or a single bevelled glass border. Traditional and ornate frames bring weight and detail through moulded timber and beaded edges, suited to period homes and panelled rooms. For US shoppers searching for an antique mirror, the vintage-style and ornate pieces cover the same look; these are new pieces made in antique and traditional styles rather than genuine antiques.

Hanging, weight and floor-standing safety

Wall mirrors at the large and extra-large end are heavy: a typical 120 cm framed piece weighs 15 to 25 kg, and extra-large pieces can run to 40 kg or more. That weight needs proper fixings rated for the full weight with a safety margin, ideally two fixings matched to D-rings or a French cleat on the back. For plasterboard, use heavy-duty anchors; for brick or stone, masonry plugs with appropriate screws. Floor-standing and leaner pieces should be anchored with an anti-tip strap. Each product page lists weight and dimensions; if you are unsure about fixings for a specific wall, contact us before ordering.
