Mist Overmantle Wall Mirror Gold - 122x79cm

The Mist is a 122x79cm arched overmantle mirror with a gold-finished polyurethane frame featuring beaded inner detailing and a shell motif crest at the top centre. The frame has rounded shoulders where it transitions into the vertical sides, creating a silhouette that follows traditional overmantle proportions designed to sit above a fireplace mantel.

Designed for placement above fireplaces, mantels and console tables in living rooms, dining rooms and entrance halls, the Mist reflects light back into the room and visually extends wall space. The 4cm depth of the moulded frame gives the mirror enough projection to cast subtle shadow lines that define the beaded detailing. At 12.6kg the mirror requires two secure wall fixings into masonry or stud positions — the weight is too great for plasterboard alone.

The gold finish on the polyurethane frame has a warm champagne tone that sits comfortably with brass, antique gold and warm wood finishes in traditional and classical interiors. The shell motif at the crest and the beaded inner border are moulded into the polyurethane rather than applied separately, giving a single-piece construction that holds detail cleanly. The arched top suits rooms with high ceilings where a rectangular mirror would leave dead space above the mantel.

How is the mirror mounted?

The mirror requires two secure wall fixings into masonry or timber stud positions. At 12.6kg it's too heavy for plasterboard alone — use wall plugs rated for the full weight or locate stud positions behind the plasterboard. The mirror has two D-rings or hanging brackets on the reverse.

What's the difference between polyurethane and wood frames?

Polyurethane frames are lighter than equivalent solid wood frames, hold moulded detail cleanly without grain variation, and don't warp or split with changes in humidity. They're also significantly less expensive than hand-carved wood frames of similar complexity.

Can it be hung horizontally?

The Mist is designed as an overmantle mirror with the arched top positioned above the mantel. Rotating it 90 degrees would place the shell crest on one side rather than centred at the top, which disrupts the intended visual balance.

How is the frame cleaned?

Wipe the polyurethane frame with a soft dry cloth to remove dust. For marks, a slightly damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid soaking the frame or using spray cleaners that can dull the gold finish. Clean the mirror glass with standard glass cleaner applied to a cloth, not sprayed directly onto the glass.
