Description

The Mist is a 122x79cm overmantle mirror with an arched top and a silver-finished polyurethane frame. The frame carries beaded inner detailing and a shell motif centred at the top of the arch, with matching scroll details at each lower corner. The 4cm frame depth gives visible projection from the wall when hung, creating shadow lines that define the frame's moulded detail.

Designed to sit above a mantelpiece, the Mist suits fireplaces in living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms where a larger mirror is needed to balance the horizontal line of the mantel shelf. The 122cm width works with mantelpieces between 120-140cm wide, sitting centrally above the fireplace opening without extending beyond the shelf edges. The mirror reflects light from windows opposite the fireplace, increasing perceived brightness in rooms where the fireplace wall is the darkest surface.

The polyurethane frame is lighter than a comparable carved wood or plaster frame at 12.6kg, making wall mounting simpler and reducing the load on plasterboard or older masonry walls. The 122cm width works best with mantelpieces between 120-140cm wide. The mirror should sit centrally above the fireplace opening without extending beyond the shelf edges on either side.

How is it mounted to the wall?

The mirror has D-rings or hanging brackets on the reverse. For the 12.6kg weight, use two wall fixings rated for at least 15kg each, positioned to engage with wall studs or solid masonry where possible. On plasterboard, use heavy-duty plasterboard anchors rather than standard rawlplugs.

Can it be hung horizontally instead of vertically?

The arched top and centred shell motif are designed for vertical orientation above a fireplace. Rotating the mirror 90 degrees would place the arch on one side, disrupting the visual balance.

How is the polyurethane frame cleaned?

Wipe the frame with a dry or barely-damp microfibre cloth. For the mirror glass, use standard glass cleaner, but avoid spraying directly onto the glass near the frame edge to prevent moisture seeping behind the silvering.
