A round wall mirror, 74cm by 74cm, in black. A deep frame projects further from the wall than a flat one, so it is worth checking the clearance against a doorway or a walkway before choosing a position. At 74cm it is about as wide as a standard interior door. A mirror is the one piece of decoration that gives something back: it doubles whatever light the room already has, and on the wall opposite a window it does more for a dark room than repainting it would.

Dark surfaces show dust and light surfaces show marks. Which is the easier problem depends entirely on the room, and dust is usually the easier one. A veneered surface gives the look of the timber without its weight or its appetite for humidity. It is not solid wood and does not behave like it — a deep scratch goes through to the board rather than sanding out.

It hangs on a triangle hook. One hook, one fixing, and the piece finds its own level — which is the advantage.
