Description

The Zoom is an 85mm square recessed downlight with a GU10 bulb fitting, housed in a black cast aluminium body rated IP65 against dust and water ingress. The square aperture measures 85 x 85mm with a 45mm installation depth, and the fixed orientation directs light straight down from the ceiling plane.

The IP65 rating makes the Zoom suitable for Zone 2 bathroom installation (outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure), kitchen ceiling positions near sinks and hobs, covered outdoor soffits, and commercial spaces where ceiling fittings need dust and moisture protection. The GU10 fitting accepts any standard GU10 LED, halogen or CFL bulb up to 50W (sold separately), giving control over beam angle, colour temperature and dimmer compatibility depending on the chosen bulb.

The black powder-coated aluminium body sits flush with the ceiling once installed, with spring clips holding the fitting securely in the ceiling void. The square aperture provides a geometric alternative to circular downlights in contemporary interiors, and the matt black finish reduces visible glare when viewed at an angle. The cast aluminium construction dissipates heat effectively, extending bulb life when paired with LED lamps.

What does IP65 mean for bathroom use?

IP65 provides full protection against dust and low-pressure water jets from any direction. This rating is suitable for Zone 2 bathroom installation (outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure, typically 60cm away from water sources). It is not rated for direct shower spray (which requires IP67).

What size hole is needed for installation?

The cutout required is slightly smaller than the 85mm visible aperture to allow the bezel to sit flush. Refer to the product manual linked above for the exact cutout dimension, typically around 75-78mm square.

Is this dimmable?

Dimmer compatibility depends on the GU10 bulb you fit. The downlight housing itself does not restrict dimming. Use a dimmable GU10 LED bulb paired with a compatible LED dimmer switch for dimming functionality.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes, the IP65 rating allows outdoor use in covered positions such as porch ceilings, garage soffits, or canopy areas where the fitting is protected from direct rainfall. It should not be installed in fully exposed positions.
