Description
This wooden standing plaque gives a shelf a goat with something to say. He is cut to his own outline, from the curling horns and wide, startled eyes to the long brown beard and knobbly legs, and he is drawn in soft pencil-style strokes in off-white with warm brown shading. His feet sit in a slot along the top of a white block base, and set into the front of that base is a pink panel reading "You goat to be kidding" in relaxed, handwritten-style dark lettering. The whole piece stands 14cm tall, 9cm wide and 2.6cm deep.
Because it stands on its own base, it needs no wall, no nails and no hooks: simply set it down. At 14cm tall it suits a bookshelf, a kitchen windowsill, a desk in a home office or the end of a mantelpiece, and at 2.6cm deep it tucks onto a narrow ledge without crowding it. The pun does the work, so it is the kind of piece that earns a smile from whoever passes it, and it brings a little farmyard humour to a room without taking over. It also makes a cheerful small gift that is easy to wrap.
The plaque is made of wood, and the goat is a flat cut-out with clean edges that follow his horns and beard closely. Turn it round and the back of both the goat and the base is plain off-white, so it looks tidy from behind as well as the front. Care is simple: dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth, and keep it away from water and damp, as you would any wooden piece. Set it beside a few plants or a stack of books, or slip it into a gift bag with a card for someone who likes their humour gentle and a little silly.
