The Worvarne is a slim, round LED flush ceiling light in white, 30cm across and only 3cm deep, so it sits close to the ceiling and suits rooms where a hanging shade would feel crowded. The body and the shade are both white plastic, and the opal diffuser spreads the light evenly across its face. The LEDs are integrated and give out 1,750 lumens, a bright main light for an everyday room. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected from splashing water, so it copes with rooms where steam and splashes are part of daily life.

That rating makes it a sensible choice for a bathroom, and a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone. It works just as well in a kitchen, a utility room, a hallway or a landing, and it can also go on the ceiling of a covered porch. We think the real gain is control. Through the app you can dim it, move the white light from a warm 2700K to a cool 6500K, or switch to a colour, so the same fitting gives crisp, bright light for cleaning and a soft, warm glow for a quiet evening. It is a smart home light, and it also works with a remote control, which is sold separately.
