Description
This little wooden carousel figurine brings the charm of an old fairground ride to the Christmas tree. It is made from MDF and painted in soft pastel pink and white: a striped pink and white canopy topped with a round gold bead, a scalloped pink rim traced with gold leaf motifs, and a pink base painted with a red flower and curling gold scrolls. Between the canopy and the base, white painted horses with blue saddle cloths, orange bridles and touches of yellow ride on slim white poles around a centre column. It stands 9cm tall and measures 4cm across and 4cm deep, so it tucks neatly onto a branch.
A loop of gold cord at the top means it is ready to hang straight from the tree, where the pastel colours sit among fairy lights. We think it suits a vintage-style or pastel tree best, or any pink and white Christmas scheme, and it makes a sweet small Christmas gift on its own or tied to a bigger present. Because it is a figurine with a flat round base, it can also sit upright on a shelf, a mantelpiece or a dressing table once the tree comes down, so it need not spend most of the year in a box.
The finish is smooth painted MDF, with gold picked out on the top bead, the leaf motifs around the rim and the scrolls on the base. Care is simple: dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth and keep it dry, as MDF is best kept away from water. When the decorations come down, wrap it in tissue paper so the horses and the scalloped rim stay crisp for next year. Hang it at eye level near a light, where its little horses can be seen, and group it with blush and gold baubles for a soft, nostalgic tree.
