Description

This ceramic money box carries a soft, sketched portrait of Winnie the Pooh hugging Piglet, with an encouraging line set in gold lettering beside them: "You are BRAVER than you believe STRONGER than you seem And SMARTER than you think". It is a round piece in white ceramic with a gloss finish, standing 8.5cm tall and 8cm across, so it sits neatly on a small shelf. A gold rim circles the body just below the rounded top, where the coin slot sits, while pale stars and a blush pink cloud float around the words. Turn it round and the back is scattered with pastel blue clouds, peach stars and little tufts of grass, so it looks just as sweet from every side.

It belongs in a nursery or a child's bedroom, on a bookshelf, a chest of drawers or a windowsill, where its gentle colours sit happily with soft furnishings. We think it makes a lovely gift for a baby or toddler, and it suits children up to twelve just as well, growing with them from the first coins dropped in by grandparents to pocket money saved for a treat. The words on the front are a quiet encouragement to read again and again, which makes it a sweet keepsake for a little one's room. Being ceramic, it is a piece to keep on a shelf rather than something to play with.

The ceramic is glazed to a smooth gloss, and the gold on the rim and lettering catches the light softly. Coins go in through the slot on top. To keep it looking its best, dust it with a soft dry cloth, or wipe it gently with a damp cloth and dry it afterwards, avoiding anything abrasive that could dull the gold. For a gift, tuck a first coin inside before you wrap it, so the saving starts the moment it is opened.
