Description
This dragon mirror puts an oval mirror in the grip of a winged resin dragon, finished in metallic purple with silver highlights along every raised edge. The dragon crouches at the foot of the frame, head lifted and claws planted, while its wings sweep up both sides of the oval to meet in a coiled flourish at the top. Each scale stands out in relief, so the purple deepens in the hollows and the silver catches on the ridges. It measures 32cm tall, 23.5cm wide and 7cm deep, a size that sits comfortably on a dressing table or shelf without crowding it.
With the dragon's body forming its base, the mirror stands upright on a flat surface and needs no wall or hook, so it can move from a dressing table to a bedside table or a bookshelf whenever you fancy a change. It brings a gothic, fantastical note to a bedroom, a study or a reading corner, and the purple sits happily beside black, charcoal grey, deep green and dark wood. We like it as a working mirror for a quick check before heading out, and as a sculptural piece in its own right the rest of the time.
The frame is made from resin, and the metallic effect finish runs across the whole dragon, from the wing tips to the claws. To keep it looking its best, dust the frame with a soft dry cloth, using a soft brush to reach the grooves between the scales, and wipe the mirror with a slightly damp cloth before drying it straight away. Keep it on a level surface, well back from the edge. Set it where a lamp or a window throws light across the frame and the purple shimmers as you pass, and as a gift it is one that is hard to forget.
