Wexford 1 Light Outdoor Pillar Light - Black Silver

The Wexford is a 1m outdoor pillar light with a hand-leaded glass lantern head set on a black and silver column base. Five individual pieces of clear glass form each panel of the hexagonal lantern, held together by traditional lead came work. The lantern head houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) and sits on a square plinth base designed to mount onto brick pillars, gatepost caps or low boundary walls.

Built for year-round outdoor use, the Wexford carries an IP44 rating, providing protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction. The fitting suits entrance pillars flanking driveways, gateposts marking property boundaries, and raised plinths bordering garden paths. The 1m total height positions the light at a level that illuminates approach paths without glare at eye level. The lantern head measures approximately 210mm wide by 430mm high, giving enough visual presence for properties with wide driveways or large gateways.

The black and silver finish combines a matt black column with a silver-toned lantern frame, giving the fitting a two-tone appearance that reads as traditional but pairs comfortably with both period architecture and modern homes. The hand-leaded glass panels diffuse light from the E27 bulb, softening the output and reducing glare while still providing functional illumination across a 3-4m radius. The fitting weighs approximately 4.2kg once assembled, requiring secure fixing into a masonry pillar or solid gatepost cap.

What bulb does it take?

The Wexford uses a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Elstead Lighting recommends a maximum 60W for traditional bulbs or a 10-15W LED equivalent. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb at 2700K for outdoor path and entrance lighting.

Can it be used in exposed coastal locations?

The IP44 rating provides protection against rain and splashing water, but not against salt spray or submersion. For coastal properties exposed to salt air, regular cleaning and inspection of the leaded glass seals is recommended to prevent corrosion of the lead came.

How is it mounted?

The square plinth base fixes to the top of a brick pillar, gatepost cap or raised plinth using screws through the base plate. The pillar or post must be flat-topped and structurally sound to support the 4.2kg weight of the fitting. Wiring is typically fed up through the centre of the pillar.

Does the glass need maintenance?

The hand-leaded glass panels should be cleaned periodically with a damp cloth to remove dust, pollen and dirt buildup. Avoid pressure washing or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the lead came joints holding the glass panels together.
