Description

The Wexford is a traditional outdoor down wall light built around a square hand-leaded glass lantern in a black and silver finish. The lantern contains five separate glass panels soldered together with lead came, with each panel carrying a diamond-pattern lattice detail. A single E27 bulb inside the lantern directs light downwards through the textured glass and onto the ground below.

Designed for covered exterior positions such as porch entrances, under-eave mounting beside front doors, and sheltered courtyard walls, the Wexford provides downward-focused illumination for steps, pathways and door thresholds. The 286mm projection from the wall gives the lantern clearance from render or brickwork, while the 370mm height provides enough visual presence to balance a typical residential door surround. The IP23 rating protects against vertically falling rain and light spray, making it suitable for covered locations but not fully exposed positions.

The black metalwork carries a low-sheen finish that minimises reflections under daylight, while the silver accents on the top finial and mounting bracket add tonal contrast. The hand-leaded glass construction means the solder lines and panel joints are visible when the light is on, creating a segmented light pattern on the wall and ground below. The metal frame and glass are weather-resistant for UK climates when mounted under cover, and the E27 fitting accepts any standard screw bulb up to 60W.

Frequently Asked

Can this be used in fully exposed positions?

No. The IP23 rating protects against vertically falling rain and light spray, making the Wexford suitable for covered positions such as under eaves, porch canopies and sheltered doorways. For fully exposed walls facing weather, look for IP44 or IP65 rated alternatives.

What bulb does it take?

The Wexford takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to suit the traditional lantern style.

How is the glass constructed?

The lantern is hand-leaded, meaning five separate glass panels are soldered together with lead came. The diamond-pattern lattice detail is embedded within each panel. The solder lines remain visible when the light is on, creating a segmented light pattern.

What mounting surface does it need?

The Wexford mounts via a decorative backplate fixed to the wall with two screws. It suits brick, render, timber cladding and painted masonry surfaces. The 286mm projection means the lantern sits clear of the wall, so ensure there is enough clearance from door swings or adjacent structures.
