Description

The Walette is a wooden pendant light with a smooth white steel dome, crowned by a collar of brown wood where the cord enters the top. The dome is 28cm in diameter and the light is 110cm tall overall, so it reads as a generous shape without overpowering a room. It takes one E27 bulb, and its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in a dry room.

Our favourite place for it is a dining room, hung above the table, where the white dome gives a clean, bright shape at the centre of the room and the wooden collar adds a warm, natural note. Hung in a row, several suit a long table well. It is just as much at home in a living room, a bedroom or a hallway, anywhere you want a single hanging light with a soft, rounded outline. The white and warm wood sit easily alongside oak furniture, soft greys and plain painted walls, so it suits a neutral scheme and stays simple to live with as your room changes.

The body is steel finished in white and the collar is brown wood, a simple pairing of materials. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, so you control it from the switch already in your room. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains, and as a wired-in light it is installed by a qualified electrician; the installation instructions are available as a download. The packed weight is 1.44KG. The bulb is not included, so choose an E27 bulb of no more than 40W, and a warm white bulb keeps the white dome looking soft and welcoming in the evening.
