Description
The Viren is a 450mm-tall alabaster table lamp built around a hand-cut Spanish alabaster dome seated on a tapered solid copper base finished in brushed bronze. A small brass ring sits at the apex of the 300mm dome as a finishing detail. Twin E27 sockets are housed inside the dome, lighting the alabaster from within so the stone itself becomes the diffuser.
Suited to console tables, sideboards, bedside tables and accent tables, the Viren works as both ambient lighting and a sculptural object. The dome casts most of its light downwards onto the table surface and outwards through the translucent stone, producing a soft pool of warm light rather than directional task light. The proportions sit comfortably on tables 400mm deep or larger.
Each alabaster dome is cut from natural Spanish stone, so the mineral veining, tonal variation and translucency differ between individual pieces. The brushed bronze finish on the solid copper base has a low-sheen, matt-lustre quality that pairs with both warm-toned interiors (oak, walnut, cream, terracotta) and cooler palettes where a single warm metal accent is wanted. The mushroom silhouette reads as contemporary while drawing on classical dome architecture.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Viren take?
The lamp uses two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair it with warm-white LED bulbs around 6-8W and 2700K-3000K, which suit the warm tone of the alabaster and the bronze base. Total wattage should not exceed the rating shown on the lamp's wiring label.
Is it dimmable?
The lamp itself is compatible with dimmable bulbs, but dimming behaviour depends on the specific bulbs and dimmer or smart plug used. For dimming, choose dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible trailing-edge dimmer or in-line dimmer cord.
Does the alabaster vary between pieces?
Yes. Each dome is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so veining, tonal variation and translucency differ between individual lamps. This is a feature of the natural material, not a defect, and is most visible when the lamp is lit.
How is the alabaster cleaned?
Alabaster is porous and softer than marble. Wipe gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. For more stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable. Do not soak the stone or use household sprays, polishes or chemical cleaners, as these can stain or etch the surface.
