Description

This vintage-style mantel clock takes the shape of an old roadside petrol pump, made in metal and finished in a deep blue that has been distressed to look well travelled. The round analogue dial sits on top where the pump's lamp would be, with bold Arabic numerals, a small classic car and the words Classic Cars across its cream face. Beneath the dial, the body of the pump carries a faded cream panel with a gallons counter and an old motor fuel notice, and a hose loops down on either side. It stands 35.5cm tall, 12cm wide and 11.5cm deep.

Because it is freestanding, it needs no wall and no fixings. Stand it on a mantelpiece, a bookcase, a sideboard or a desk, where its 12cm width and 11.5cm depth let it sit happily on a narrow shelf, and its height gives it presence beside framed prints or books. It brings a little garage nostalgia to a living room, a study, a hallway or a den, and it sits especially well in a room with a retro motoring theme. The bold Arabic numerals stand out clearly on the cream face, so the time is quick to read at a glance.

The clock has a quartz movement and uses the AA battery size, also sold as LR6 or MN1500. Batteries are not included, so keep one to hand for the day you set it up. The distressed vintage finish is part of the design, with worn edges and a softly faded front panel, so it arrives looking as though it has spent years beside a country road. To care for it, dust with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from damp. Wrapped as a gift or set on your own mantelpiece, we think it makes a cheerful talking point for anyone who stops to look.
