Description

The Velar is a 250mm compact table lamp built from three distinct materials: a sculpted marble column in dark terracotta red, a brushed brass collar, and an opal glass globe shade. The marble base is turned with a series of horizontal grooves that give it a ribbed, almost totemic profile, while the spherical glass shade sits directly on top through a brass cup that links the two materials. A G9 lamp socket sits inside the globe.

At 250mm tall and 150mm in diameter, the Velar suits surfaces where a full-size table lamp would feel oversized: bedside tables, console tables in narrow hallways, low shelves and writing desks. The opal glass diffuses the G9 bulb into a soft, even glow rather than a directional beam, making it useful as bedside reading light or low-level ambient light in a sitting room. A inline cord switch and standard UK plug are fitted as standard.

The marble base shows natural veining and tonal variation through the deep terracotta red, with each piece cut from a different section of stone so colour depth and pattern shift between individual lamps. The brass collar is finished to a soft satin sheen that picks up the warm undertones in the marble without competing with them. A small brass plinth at the foot lifts the lamp clear of the surface and protects the base of the stone.

The lamp uses a single G9 capsule bulb, sold separately. A warm-white LED G9 between 2.5W and 4W at 2700K-3000K gives a soft glow through the opal glass that suits bedside and ambient use.

Does the marble vary between pieces?

Yes. The base is cut from natural marble in a dark terracotta red tone, so the depth of colour, veining and mineral pattern differ between individual lamps. This is a feature of the natural stone, not a defect.

How tall is it and where does it suit?

How is the marble cleaned?
